About Brilliant Maths Tutors
Brilliant Maths Tutors began in Cape Town in 2009 with four learners in one small group. The business grew from a simple idea that still matters now: understand where the learner is stuck, explain clearly, and build forward from there.

The scale has changed since the first lessons, but the useful question has not: what does this learner need to understand next?
How that shapes tutoringOur story
Brilliant Maths Tutors grew from founder Amien Mohamed helping a small group of learners with Mathematics in 2009. Those first lessons focused on Grade 8–10 learners and the very practical work of helping difficult concepts make sense.
As the tutoring service grew, so did the range of learners it could support. Brilliant Maths expanded its Mathematics support across Grades 1–12 and has also offered Mathematics Literacy and Physical Sciences support for high-school learners.
The business did not grow by turning tutoring into a generic product. Its history is still visible in the way enquiries are handled: start with the learner, understand the gap, and choose the most useful tutoring route from there.
The first tutoring group established the learner-first approach that still guides the business.
Mathematics support grew from those early high-school lessons to learners across Grades 1–12.
Current tutoring can be matched to practical needs through one-to-one, small-group and online formats, subject to availability and fit.
How we think about tutoring
When something is not clicking, the useful job is to find out why. Brilliant Maths approaches tutoring as a process of understanding, explaining, practising and adjusting.

More pressure does not automatically create understanding. Break the method down, make the steps visible and give the learner room to ask.
Practice works best when it is connected to the concept being learned, not simply added as more work after confusion.

Founder-led beginnings
Brilliant Maths began with founder Amien Mohamed tutoring a small group of learners. The business grew out of doing the work first — seeing where learners struggled, explaining concepts in a more useful way, and building a service around those needs.
That makes the history of Brilliant Maths less about a corporate origin story and more about continuity: real lessons, real learner questions, and a tutoring model that has expanded without losing its original starting point.
Built in Cape Town
Brilliant Maths currently provides mobile in-person tutoring in Cape Town, with tutors travelling to learners in the areas they serve. Group tutoring is also held at the Wynberg venue at 103 Batts Road, Wynberg, Western Cape, 7800.
The model is based on tutor capacity rather than pretending every service area is a physical branch. As tutors join from other areas, Brilliant Maths can add real coverage where those tutors are based and available. Online tutoring provides another route when distance makes remote support the better fit.
What stays consistent
Start with the learner. The useful route depends on the grade, subject, current level, location and what is actually going wrong.
Keep the next step clear. Parents should know what information is needed and what happens after an enquiry.
Use real availability. In-person coverage follows tutor capacity rather than fictional branches or vague promises.
Build understanding. The goal is not merely to get through today's exercise, but to make the method more usable the next time.
